The Big Premire

As promised, I wanted to show you how the movie screen turned out! For those of you who might have missed that post, I sewed together a 15ft x 10ft. movie screen for some friends of mine who wanted to show outdoor movies. It turned out perfect! No rips, tears, or malfunctions! Here it is (please excuse the photo quality as it was really smokey from the fire pit and I only had my point and shoot camera with me.):

And YES, we watched Elf! I know it's early but it is such a funny movie!
It was a really fun night! Cold, but fun!

New Life for an Old Desk

I am so excited to share with you my latest project! When we moved into our new house I decided I wanted a larger desk to scrapbook, craft, and sew on. I knew I wanted it to be white and to have lots of drawers to store all of my craft supplies. I used to store my supplies on a shelf but it always looked kind of messy so this would allow me to keep all of those items out of site. After a couple of weeks of looking for the perfect desk while thrifting, I finnally found the one! It is large, has lots of storage, and it even has a little shelf underneath for my sewing machine! I just have to paint it white. The best thing about it is that it was only $25!

Here is the drab and outdated before:

And here is the amazing after:

I used one coat of primer and two coats of white paint that we already had leftover from other house projects

For the hardware, I ended up deciding on three different kinds of handles which came as kind of a surprise to me!  I never would have thought to try three different handles except that I kept thinking about what kind of handle would be best for the size and function of each drawer. There are three different types of drawers so it seemed logical to try three different types of handles. I was worried it wouldn't look cohesive but I tried it and decided that it actually really adds interest to the new look! So when picking hardware for anything I think it is important to consider the size of the drawer and what the drawer is used for. I think it also works because of the separation of the two lowest drawers by that decorative strip of wood and because all of the knobs are in the same color family.

What do you think? Pretty dramatic difference, right?!

Closet Chaos

Today just feels like a great day for organizing! OK, I'll be honest, for me everyday is a great day for organizing! If someone were to ask me what my passion in life is, next to God, my husband, and thrifting would be organizing! I swear I get a high from seeing things go from crazy to contained!
My latest organizing project was our hall closet. This is where all of our beauty products, travel toiletries, toilet paper, and medical supplies are kept. When we moved into our house 3 months ago I thought I had the closet pretty organized. I had everything divided by type in bins which is great but it still just didn't look very nice. There were also a lot of products that I needed to admit to myself that I wasn't going to use and just throw away! I think you know what I'm talking about!

Here is the closet before:
 embarrassing!

And here it is after:
so much better!

The top shelf, which is hardest to reach, is home to all of our travel toiletries and refill products since we don't need daily access to those items.

Here's a travel tip for you: Keep your travel toiletries ready to go in baggies. I keep products you use in the shower in one bag and products you use outside of the shower in another bag. My husbands products are in blue containers and mine are in pink containers just so there is no confusion! If I use up something during a trip I just make sure I add it to the grocery list and replace it as soon as possible so we are always ready to go! This way you never forget anything!

I like to use this metal two sided container for my headbands. On one side are my stretchy headbands and on the other are my regular ones. They are all easily visible and stay in place.
I did all of this for $0! I just re-purposed baskets and containers that I already owned. Does this post bring to mind any closets in your home that could use a little organization?

Thrifty Finds of the Week!

Check out these thrifty thrift store finds:
file cabinet/ end table/ printer stand
I have actually been looking for something like this for our guest room/ office. We are using it as a printer stand right now but when we get a bed for this room I might use it as a bedside table. What a great multi purpose piece and it is from the same Target furniture collection as the desk it sits next to! How perfect!
Goodwill on Powell Rd. at Polaris $22.00

 tan leather boat shoes
just like Sperry Top-Siders which I love but Merona brand from Target
Ohio Thrift $5.99

navy blue patent leather peep toes with a slight wedge heel
So cute but I'll probably put them away until Spring.
also Merona brand from Target brand new!
Goodwill on High St. $3.99
black/ white tweed coat with faux fur collar
I am so excited about this coat! Not only does it look super pricey but it also fits me perfectly! That is really hard to find when you are as small as me!
Goodwill on Morse Rd. only $3.49 because it is actually a kids coat!

black satin corset top from Forever 21
I thought this would be perfect for the 50's ladylike trend. I can pair it with a longer full skirt and a cardigan. The fact that the top is a little sexy will balance the more demure sweater and skirt.
Ohio Thrift $1.99

white eyelet halter dress with black trim
I will probably have to save this for next summer also but it was too cute to pass up!
I love the halter and bow details.
Goodwill on Morse Rd. $4.99

 candle holder
I love the pattern on this! It is like the Chinese vases but with a more Moroccan feel. It has a hole at the top I assume for hanging it on the wall. What a unique piece!
Goodwill on Sawmill Rd. $.99

small white lampshade from Target
I bought this because I have a small lamp that needs a shade but apparently it needs an extra small shade because this one was too big. Oh well, I'm sure I'll use it for something at some point! It is brand new, still in the original packaging. I was planning on covering it with a patterned fabric.
Goodwill on Sawmill Rd. $1.99

Iphone clear rubber case and belt clip
I just got an Iphone (I loooove it) and I already found a hard clear case at T.J.Maxx for $5 but I thought I should have this one in case the other one breaks.
Goodwill on Sawmill Rd. $2.99

black leather laceup boots
Laceup military boots are a big trend right now but instead of paying $100 or more for new ones I got these at Goodwill on Sawmill Rd. for $3.49 and they are already broken in!

another pair of black leather military laceup boots
Since they are such a huge trend I bought this pair that was too big for me to sell on EBay!

a very wrinkled turquoise dress from Target
Brand new- just needs washed and ironed!
Goodwill on Sawmill Rd. $4.99

gauzey floral racer back tank and green military style skirt with zipper pockets
This was so funny! I actually really wanted this top from Forever21 last summer and just never wanted to pay full price for it (even though it was only $17.80). Then today I walk into Goodwill and there it is in my size! Crazy but not the first time this has happened! Proving that good things come to those who wait!
Goodwill on Sawmill Rd. $1.99

Pretty good haul for one week, I'd say! What cool stuff have you guys found while thrift shopping lately? Happy Thrifting!

Behind the Scenes at my First Fashion Show

I had the most incredible opportunity last week! Let me start from the beginning. There is a fabulous store in the Short North area of Columbus, Ohio called Rowe. My friend Jaymie and I have made friends with the owner Maren Roth just by shopping there. Every fall Maren has a fashion show featuring clothing from the store. This year Maren asked Jaymie and I to be a part of creating the "look book" and of the fashion show. I was asked to do the makeup for the look book and Jaymie got to do some modeling and be the stylist for the show. During the show, we were both backstage helping to dress and undress the models and Jaymie did the final approval of each look before it went down the runway. It was total chaos just like you see on t.v. but tons of fun too! As a lifetime lover of all things fashion this was truely a dream come true for me to be a part of! Thanks Maren!

Here are some pictures from the look book:

Here are some pictures from the Rowe runway show:
This is the room where it was held and the runway. Everyone got gift bags and a look book.
All 28 looks from the show to keep us organized.
Each outfit had one of these so we knew what outfit went on which model and so we didn't forget anything.

Hair was big and curly with lots of volume.
Makeup was soft and natural with a custom blended bright orange lip color from Mukha Spa in Columbus, Ohio

What a success! Everything went beautifully and a great time was had by all! As you can see by the pictures Rowe has a lot of amazing clothing, shoes and accessories. All of the looks from the show are for sale right now at Rowe. I highly recommend visiting the store at 718 N. High St. Columbus Ohio 43215 or checking out roweboutique.com! Rowe is definitely one of my favorite stores! It makes me proud to be from Columbus, Ohio!
