Fall Fashion 2010: The 50s /60s Ladylike Trend

As a fan of vintage clothing I am very excited about the 50s/ 60s Ladylike trend! This is one to embrace ladies as it has already spilled into the 2011 Spring runways. It is a classic look that isn't really a trend at all! The pieces you buy now will last you for many years to come.

The Look:  feminine, bustiers, full skirts, longer hemlines, fitted sweaters and cardigans, tight cropped pants, cinched waist, below the knee pencil skirts, fitted sheath dresses, heavy wool blend fabrics for fall, pastels and florals for spring 2011, prim and proper housewife but with sexy curves

The Accessories:  kitten heels, structured handbags with handles or a cross body strap, headbands, waist cinching belts, cat eye glasses, thin socks worn with heels, knee socks that stop just before the hemline

The Hair and Makeup:  bold red lipstick or soft pink lipstick, black lined cat eyes, big perfectly teased updo's

Tips for making it 2010
- Pair your full below the knee skirt with a snug sweater or a sheer blouse on top to avoid looking dowdy
- Try the same look but in a shorter hemline
- Pair a full skirt with a popped collar blazer
- Wear modern accessories with these vintage looking pieces

The Inspiration:  Mad Men, Dries van Noten, Prada, and Marc Jacobs for Louis Vuitton

I especially love the look in the middle with the burgundy skirt. I feel like that is a great example on how to modernize this trend.

  1. Wait...which Goodwill are you shopping at? Those are some amazing finds! I nearly fell off my chair when I saw the Rodarte for Target dress for only $5!!! The Goodwill in my area hardly ever has anything that amazing.

  2. Hi Dinah! I live in Columbus, Ohio and shop at all of the many Goodwill's in the area especially the one on High St. Near OSU campus and the one on Morse Rd. in central Columbus. All of our Goodwill stores receive merchandise from Target which is really nice! Thanks for reading and never underestimate what you can find at a thrift store!
