Chicago Trip

Hey Everybody! We're back from Chicago! We went to visit my brother who is going to grad school for Architecture at the University of Illinois. This is my brother Dan:
He baked home made bread when we arrived and we ate it hot dripping with butter! Yes, ladies he is single!
This is Sammy Davis Jr. (Sammy) his cat- the sweetest cat ever!

ACCOMMODATIONS:
We stayed in Dan's very small studio apartment. This was the bed we brought that just happens to be entirely from Goodwill. Would you have expected anything else from me?
air mattress: brand new in box from Goodwill $10
sheet set: Goodwill $6
comforter: $5
Total Bed Set: $21

FOOD:
We had some amazing food. Honestly this is what I will miss the most about being in Chicago. Well, and my brother of course! The first night we ate at Telegraph. It is a highly talked about restaurant in Chicago right now so we thought we'd give it a try and let me tell you... it did not disappoint! We got three first courses and three second courses and shared them all as recommended by our waiter.
For lunch on Monday we went to a little place in Andersonville called A Taste of Heaven. We both got peach french toast which was amazing and the coffee was the best I've ever had!
The second night we went downtown for pizza at Lou Malnatis'. Best pizza I've ever had!
Then on Tuesday morning we went out to breakfast at a southern inspired restaurant called Wishbone.
Then the last night we ate at a heavy metal hamburger place called Kumo's Corner. One of the best meals both of us have ever had!

 FUN:
Thrift shopping is Andersonville- fun stores but too expensive!
Site seeing and shopping in Downtown Chicago:

  Visiting Dan at school:
and last but not least we toured the Frank Lloyd Wright houses in Oak Park:
OUTFITS:
Here is what I wore the first day:
sweater: Kohl's $10 (with coupon)
white v-neck t-shirt: Forever 21 $4.90
jeans: Volunteers of America $3
shoes: DSW $12 (on clearance)
Total Cost: $29.90

and the second day:
 military jacket: Forever 21 $27
top: Old Navy $7 (got 75% off)
scarf: Volunteers of America $4
jeans: Forever 21 $15
boots: Goodwill $4
Total Cost: $57

and the last day:
hat: H&M $7
plaid shirt: Goodwill $3.49
Banana Republic jeans: $5.99

  2. I'm in love with your second and third outfits. You look pretty bundled--believe it or not we're still having indian summer out here in California. I'd love to visit Oak Park sometime. FLW is an icon to my hubby who studied architecture.

  4. Sammy Davis Jr. is a great name for a pet. It reminds me of the Jonathan Safran Foer novel, "Everything is Illuminated." He has a dog named Sammy Davis Jr. Jr.

  5. Thanks everybody! It was pretty cold - about 50 degrees when we were there and windy! Teddi- I loved the Frank Lloyd Wright houses! He has been my favorite since I was a kid! I love his connection with nature!

  6. I'm so happy that you got to experience Kuma's while you were here! What burger did you get and did you love it?! We just missed each other - I was just there this past Friday. Was the wait insufferable? Also, how was Wishbone? I've passed by and been interested.

OK, I'm done w/21 questions now.

  7. Kuma was only about 30mins not bad for a Tuesday night! Funny story- I actually don't eat hamburgers. I went there for my husbands sake because that's his favorite food! I got the Buffalo Chicken Sandwich which was amazing! My husband got the Mastadon BBQ Burger and he said it was the best hamburger he's ever had! Wishbone was also awesome! They have sort of a southern feel. I got a shrimp omelet, potatoes, and corn muffins- so delicious! You should definitely try Wishbone!

  11. This trip looks like so much fun and the pics of you and your brother are so cute. I really like all your outfits too, the black boots are so chic. I can't believe the deals you get, it's really amazing you got that much for such low prices. Nice work.

  12. 30 minutes is amazing for Kuma's! That Friday I waited about 1.5-2 hours, which is pretty typical, believe it or not. It was nice of you to endure all that hamburger aroma for your hubby! FYI, if you ever go again, you can get any burger done w/chicken breast or a garden burger instead of beef.

I'm gonna have to try Wishbone, thanks for the review!
