New Life for an Old Desk

I am so excited to share with you my latest project! When we moved into our new house I decided I wanted a larger desk to scrapbook, craft, and sew on. I knew I wanted it to be white and to have lots of drawers to store all of my craft supplies. I used to store my supplies on a shelf but it always looked kind of messy so this would allow me to keep all of those items out of site. After a couple of weeks of looking for the perfect desk while thrifting, I finnally found the one! It is large, has lots of storage, and it even has a little shelf underneath for my sewing machine! I just have to paint it white. The best thing about it is that it was only $25!

Here is the drab and outdated before:

And here is the amazing after:

I used one coat of primer and two coats of white paint that we already had leftover from other house projects

For the hardware, I ended up deciding on three different kinds of handles which came as kind of a surprise to me!  I never would have thought to try three different handles except that I kept thinking about what kind of handle would be best for the size and function of each drawer. There are three different types of drawers so it seemed logical to try three different types of handles. I was worried it wouldn't look cohesive but I tried it and decided that it actually really adds interest to the new look! So when picking hardware for anything I think it is important to consider the size of the drawer and what the drawer is used for. I think it also works because of the separation of the two lowest drawers by that decorative strip of wood and because all of the knobs are in the same color family.

What do you think? Pretty dramatic difference, right?!
