week 28

Happy Monday Everyone! I thrifted this gorgeous top a few weeks ago. It's not maternity but it was pretty long and not fitted so I knew it would work! This is what I wore to my doctor's appointment last week. I've definitely been favoring dresses lately but low rise pants seem to work better for these  appointments so she can measure my belly and use the machine to listen to his heartbeat. Everything checked out great! Baby boy Turner is still measuring in at around 50% which is perfect! She said her best prediction would be that he would be around 7lbs at birth.

I also had to get my blood drawn twice and get a flu shot and the whooping cough shot. I came home looking like I'd been beat up with 4 Bandaids on my arms! Then I felt like crap for the next two days- probably from the flu shot. The good new is that I don't have gestational diabetes but I am anemic so I'm taking iron pills everyday for that. Has anyone else taken those? They are awful! They make you burp what tastes like metallic burnt popcorn. After a few days of taking them I seem to have a little bit more energy and even a little less pain!

  1. I was told by my mother-in-law that she had low iron, but she had to get two big shots on each cheek - and not the face kind! Yikes! So glad medicine has advanced in the past 30 years!! I just had my first OB appt today and had to get blood drawn. I am SUCH a baby about it, too. I turn pale and breathe heavy and ugh, it's awful. But that ultrasound was the most amazing thing I've ever seen in my life, so it was a great morning!

    1. Glad I'm not the only one who is a big baby about getting blood drawn! Hearing about your mother-in-law definitely makes my iron pills seem not so bad- thanks! Best of luck to you as your babe grows!

  2. I started taking the slow iron that releases more gradually in your stomach (Slow FE or equivalent), and it's way easier on my body. I've been taking it for years now and it really helps.

    1. I unfortunately haven't been able to get in to see my girl Charis that I work with at the Polaris Kenneth's. So this time I went to see my husbands guy Darren in German Village at Headmaster PHD Salon. They are both awesome and about the same cost- $45 for a haircut.

  4. Ginna is right about the slow fe... it is MUCH easier on your stomach and doesn't give you the burps.... also, make sure you take it with a drink that has lots of vitamin C... it helps your body to absorb the iron better.... Most gals I know who had boys fail the glucose test.... its the boys... they come in and make the place their own:)

  5. i used to take iron pills and learned the hard way from experience -- DEFINITELY make sure you eat before taking them. i was nauseous every morning for like 2 weeks! i thought maybe *something else* was at play, but it turned out it was just the iron pills. once i started taking them AFTER food, i was just fine.

  6. I agree on the Slow Fe iron pills. I was told not to drink orange juice before them because it reduces the absorption. I would check with your doctor. I had side effects from the iron pills -- not fun, but only had to take them one trimester. You are glowing!
