So this past Wednesday was Ash Wednesday which for those who have a relationship with Jesus, it is the beginning of Lent. Lent is a 40 day period leading up to Easter. It is a time for reflecting on our sin as well as Christ's death and resurrection. We choose to give something up not just for the sake of depriving ourselves but in order to make room for God.
I say this because I wanted to let you all know that I have chosen to give up thrift shopping for Lent. I decided to do give it up because for one it's hard for me to give up but also because I want to show God that even though I love shopping, He is more important. I plan to use the time that I would normally be shopping to spend time with God.
Don't worry, I have more than enough clothes to keep the blog going! I could probably not shop for the rest of the year and be just fine!
Are you giving up anything for Lent? What are you planning to do instead?

I picked up that blush polka dot Jason Wu for Target blouse at Goodwill, too! :) I am giving up shopping for clothes during Lent as well, so that means not much thrifting for me either. I can still look for Pyrex every once in awhile, though!
ReplyDeleteHi Lindsey, I truly admire your Lenten observance, and can appreciate what a change it will create for your throughout these 40 days. You have inspired me, too. I needed to be reminded, as well, that Lent is not just about giving something up, but about focussing more on one's relationship to Jesus/God the Father etc.
ReplyDeleteThank you, and God bless!
I gave up thrift shopping for lent as well! On top of being able to devote that time to my relationship with Jesus, it has also convicted me a bit of how consumerist I had become. It's also forcing me to actually wear all the beautiful clothes I had purchased!
ReplyDeleteSo...I'm with you on this lent thing:)
