My hubby and I just returned from our Anniversary trip to Louisville, Kentucky- the home of bourbon, mint juleps, hot brown and the Derby! We were celebrating 13 years of marriage- I can't believe it's been that long! We wanted a getaway that was with in 4 hours of Columbus, Ohio (where we live) and Louisville was the perfect choice! Thanks to Living Social we got an amazing deal for a two night stay at The Brown hotel that came with free parking, a bottle of wine, chocolate covered strawberries, 2 hot brown's and 2 bourbon flights PER DAY! I've stayed at nice hotels before but this one was a step above anything I've experienced! The staff was incredible! We were treated like royalty the entire time we were there!

that's hot brown!

Bourbon tasting at Evan Williams Distillery:
A lot of firsts on this trip- first time staying in Kentucky, first time tasting hot brown, first time drinking bourbon, first time tasting bourbon balls, and our first time getting room service! We also went to two really good restaurants. For our anniversary dinner we went to an Italian restaurant called Volare which was amazing! Then for brunch we tried Wild Eggs which was one of the best breakfasts we've ever had- just a really fun place! The bourbon tour and tasting at Evan Williams was also a lot of fun! Then of course we found some vintage and thrift stores because I never travel to a new city without checking out their thrift scene- more on that on Friday though! It was a great trip- I highly recommend everything I mentioned here! So nice to have three whole days with my best friend!

How fun! Louisville is my home town. Did you go to Joe Ley's?
ReplyDeleteNo we didn't- 3 days was definitely not enough time to eat at all the restaurants I wanted to! Louisville seems to have a lot of great food! Next time!
DeleteLooks like a great trip! Cant wait to see what you got while thrifting! Love the pic of the wig shop-creepy cool! Hey question for ya- have you ever been to Goodwill and didnt get anything? That happened to me today-bummer! Must have been something in the air!
ReplyDeleteThanks Kristy, I love photography and esp. love unique subjects like these! You know, I almost always find something but it has happened.
DeleteLooks like a fun place! The hot brown looks good, but what's in it? I've never heard of it. I'm looking forward to seeing what you thrifted.
ReplyDeleteHi Lee Ann! Hot Brown is toast points, with shredded turkey, tomatoes, a rich mornay sauce, bacon, and a little cheese on top all bubbly and hot! very rich but delicious!

ReplyDeleteThe Brown invented the Hot Brown. It's delicious!
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed our city. I see you didn't make it to Jo Ley. Shame. It's one of our best antique stores. Goss is great too. Crossing my fingers you didn't waste to much time at Bardstown Rd. or Nitty Gritty. I think those shops are dreadful! Can't wait to read about it.
Your pictures are amazing!!!

Thanks Jessica! I know, I can't believe we've been married that long! The hotel was quite amazing!
DeleteI just found your blog a couple of weeks ago and am addicted - as I am to thrift stores, too! Looks like you had fun in my city - in fact, I actually work at The Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts just across from the Evan Williams Experience! Just wanted to say you've inspired me with your style to take some chances with fashion and have gotten two compliments at work on my outfits!!
ReplyDeleteThat is so awesome Becky! I am so thrilled that I was able to inspire you! Thanks so much for reading!
