Beauty Secrets: Hair Powders

So I'm sure you've heard a lot about hair powders in the past several years. They are great for absorbing oil  on the scalp! Now, I am not ashamed to admit, I only wash my hair about twice per week so I'm a pretty big fan of hair powders. Oscar Blandi makes my favorite one:

Hair Powder Tip #1: Pump Up the Volume
Of course I love it to help freshen up my hair in between washings but I have also found that it does something else for my hair that I wasn't even expecting. It takes my thin, flat hair to full and voluminous! My hair really doesn't get oily anymore since it is so used to going several days in between washings but I still like to use the hair powder to give it volume. Try it sometime! It really works!
Hair Powder Tip #2: Powder vs. Spray
I highly recommend the actual hair powders over the sprays. I have found that the spray bottles must be half full of whatever chemical makes them spray because they don't last nearly as long as they should. I only got a few months worth out of a spray but I've had my little bottle of powder for like 2 years and they are the same price! The spray bottles can easily get clogged beyond repair. The powder is much more compact for traveling.
Hair Powder Tip #3: Focus on the Scalp
The biggest complaint I hear about hair powders is that they can leave a white powdery residue on the hair. This is for two reasons. One, you are using too much of the product; and two, you are not focusing the powder on the scalp. I think it helps to dump a dime sized amount onto the finger tips and rub hands together. Then take your finger tips to your head and rub the product into the scalp. This is also the best way to build up volume in the hair. Don't start with too much product. You can always add more!

Do you use hair powder? What's you favorite one?

  3. I have heard of this product, but I've never tried any of dry shampoos. Now that you're saying it works for you, it should work for me, too, because I have thin hair as well. It takes so much time to wash them every so often! Thanks for the tip!
    Good luck!
