Cute Outfit of the Day: Fiesta

Hello Everyone!
Happy Memorial Day!
I hope you all are having a wonderful and relaxing weekend! I wasn't sure if I was going to have time to post today because we are working on painting our front door- finally! I mentioned we were thinking about painting our front door last summer and we are just now getting to it! Better late than never- right?! Well, as usual we thought we got everything we needed beforehand but when we took the door off the hinges we realized that the weather strip on the bottom was looking pretty sad. So my husband is off at the hardware store for the second time today picking that up.
So I have a few minutes to show you what I wore to my best friend Kelly's Birthday party last night. She had a Mexican Fiesta themed party so I decided to go with the theme and wear my new Mexican dress that I got at Goodwill last week!

dress: Goodwill $4.99
Belt: Target $4.99
wide bracelet: gift
beaded bracelets: H&M $3.99
shoes: Target via Goodwill $3.99

Total Cost $18.96

I will post pictures of the door tomorrow! Hopefully
everything will go O.K.!

Having Trouble with the Link to My TV Segment?

I guess some people are having trouble with the link to my tv segment from the other day. When I click on it, it takes me to a page that says Imppull at the top. At this point you just need to scroll down to where it says Search Results then click on option #1. This will take you to the Fox 28 website and if you wait a few seconds the video will automatically load.
I will try to fix this to make it a more direct link but I can't promise anything as I'm not that great with computers! Sorry for the inconvenience! I hope you will still check it out!

Tips for Successful Thrift Shopping

By far the most common question I get from readers is "How do you thrift shop?". People can never believe the amazing thing I find at thrift stores and they want to know how they can do it too!

This is a topic I discussed when I was on the news recently but I have quite a few more tips that I wanted to share with you all!

1.Don't judge a book by it's cover: sometimes the grungiest thrift stores in the worst areas have the best stuff so take along some hand sanitizer and get over it! And remember the buddy system if you are going to a particularly bad neighborhood.

2.Plan a thrift day: Thrift stores tend to be located close to one another in certain areas. If there is one thrift store there is likely to be another. Use the internet to find new stores.

3.Know the sale days: most thrift stores have colored tags or even a day when they put items on sale . You can always ask a sales associate to let you know what colored tags are on sale or what day(s) they have a sale.

4.Research the trends: Thrift stores tend to be large and slightly overwhelming at times so it helps to know what you are looking for.  In order to know what you are looking for you need to do your homework. Look through magazines and fashion blogs to get an idea of what the trends are and try to recreate those looks when you go to the thrift store. I am always amazed that I can go into a thrift store with something specific in mind and i will usually find it!

5.Dress for success: Many thrift stores don't even have dressing rooms so it helps to wear something form fitted like leggins and a tank top so you can try clothes on over your clothes if you need to.

6.Think outside the thrift store: This is the most valuable piece of advice that I received from my friend Jaymie when she taught me how to thrift shop. When you look at an item you have to visualize it outside of the thrift store. Everything tends to look drab and dirty at at thrift store. But if you picture it in your home, or picture what you might wear with it, or where you could wear it, you start to see things differently.

7.Be creative: think about how you can use items for purposes other than their main one. For example, you could buy an ugly or damaged item because it has cool buttons then use the buttons on something else.

8.Be patient: there are many treasures to uncover at a thrift store but sometimes you have to go through a lot of stuff you don't want to find the one item you do want. Take your time and view your shopping as an adventure not just a quick stop.

9.Buy only what you love: Sometimes it is hard not to be like a kid in a candy store while thrifting. Why buy one top for $3 when you can buy 10 for only $30! But chances are you don't really need 10 new tops nor do you LOVE all 10 of the tops. Be realistic about what you will really wear and don't buy it if you don't love it. Thrift shopping is cheap but if you buy a lot of items that you never wear you can waste quite a bit of money over time!

10.Inspect before you buy: sometimes there is a reason certain items are at the thrift store. Clothing items might have a hole in it or a stain. This is not always a reason not to buy  something because sometimes these things can be fixed- you will have to judge that for yourself. Often thrift stores will have outlets where you can plug in lamps or household items to make sure they work- definitely take advantage of this!

11.Make friends: Be nice to the staff and they will be nice to you! Be patient as many of the employees at Goodwill in particular have disabilities.  When you are nice they might give you an extra discount or let you in on information on sale days or special events. They also love it when you use small bills to pay with!

12.Give back: Clean out your closet regularly and donate your unused items to a local thrift store. Many thrift stores support people with disabilities or those who are less fortunate. What an easy way to help a great cause. And you can write it off on your taxes- just ask for a receipt!

Cute Outfit of the Day: Tribal Print Mix

Hey All! I'm back to taking photos inside because it is raining... AGAIN! It has been raining here for like 2 months straight! I'm so glad I have an indoor photo studio!

I love tribal prints! The only thing I love more than tribal prints is mixing tribal prints! You have to tread lightly because it can look crazy pretty fast. This outfit works well because one print is really bold and lively (the head scarf) and the other is more neutral and subdued (the dress). I love the way my hair turned out. I'll be honest, I was having a bad hair day and I just threw it back. Then I spotted this scarf that I found at Goodwill yesterday. It picks up the hot pink from the belt and it's the perfect element to complete my look!

jacket: Forever 21 from forever ago (no pun intended; ok it was!) $24.99
top/dress: Goodwill $3.49
leggins: Goodwill $1.99
shoes: Kelsi Dagger via Marshalls $25
head scarf: Volunteers of America $1.99
earrings: Forever 21 $4.90
bracelets: Forever 21 $4.90
belt: Goodwill $1.49

Total Cost $68.75

Do you like Tribal prints? Have you had success in mixing them?

Three Minutes of Fame

Well, my 2nd t.v. debut is over now! I did it! I think it went really well too! I was so much less nervous this time as compared to the last segment. It helped to be surrounded my my wonderful husband and close friends! Speaking of, my models did such an amazing job! They looked so gorgeous!
My segment was with Amy Lutz. She was so incredibly nice and personable. I loved how sincerely excited she was about the outfits I put together and all the incredible deals I found!
that's Amy on the far left
For the segment we did a thrift store fashion show. I dressed 4 models (friends) in clothing from thrift stores. Each outfit corresponds to a current trend. Here are some photos from us getting ready. They unfortunately didn't allow us to take photos in the news room which makes sense but I wish you could have seen the room. It looks so different than it does on t.v.!

I love this sign!

off to Production!

Thank you so much to Fox 28 for having me! And a huge thank you to  Victoria, Anita, Sara, and Alicia for getting up at the butt crack of dawn to be my models. I couldn't have done it without you! And a special thank you to my wonderful husband for your constant encouragement and for all your help with keeping me calm and helping me get ready. You are amazing!
If the segment makes it to the Fox website I will definitely post a link to it so you all can see it!

Cute Outfit of the Day: Back in Black

I am loving this new jumpsuit I got recently from Goodwill! It is a Silence and Noise jumpsuit from Urban Outfitters. I can't believe someone would get rid of it! But, I'm glad they did!
I wore this to a skin care class at work. It's so funny because we normally wear a uniform that is all black so what do we all end up wearing when we can wear whatever we want... Black! I can't help it, I just like black.

jumpsuit: Silence & Noise via Goodwill $4.99
jacket: Forever 21 clearance $16.99
necklace: Forever 21 $9.80
shoes: Kelsi Dagger via Marshall's $25

Total cost:  $56.78

Do you like jumpsuits?
